Keep
Full Program
On
locations that Benton Oil has on a keep full program we determine
how much fuel a location sells per day on average and schedule
loads to meet this demand. We also factor in such things as holidays
and weekends as high demand times, especially for gasoline. We
try to only schedule loads that will equate to 90% of our total
delivery capacity. That leaves room for any extra demand that
our customers might need in such cases as fuel specials, outages
at nearby fuel stops, etc. that might be cause for increased,
unforeseen demand. Our record on run outs speaks for itself. We
have never let the Cartersville, GA Travel Center run out of any
grade of gasoline or diesel.
Total
Program Management
We have managed accounts for Cone Oil for some time. They have
four stores in our delivery area including one travel plaza. We
poll their supplier's prices daily and pull product for freight
from these supplier's. If we can sell to Cone Oil at a price that
we know will save them money we do so without any call to them.
They have given full discretion to do our best to get them the
best available price for each location regardless of whether we
pull from their suppliers or from ours.
In
managing stores for an account like Cone Oil, we assume substantial
responsibility for the profitability of that store. If we let
a station run out of gas or diesel, that negatively effects profitability.
If we make the wrong decision on a price or pull from the wrong
supplier, that negatively effects profitability. Cone Oil has
decided that we can do the job that they have asked us to do and
that we do it well enough that they have entrusted their business
to us. By giving us this freedom it provides our company with
more opportunities to become more efficient as well as more profitable.
This scenario has worked well for us in that when the market is
up we can simply pull their rack price accounts and make freight.
But if the market is down we can sell to Cone Oil and make freight
plus some margin on the fuel and still get the customer a cheaper
price than rack.
